Safonau proffesiynol · Leading in Wales
The Welsh professional standards, in everyday leadership.
The professional standards for teaching and leadership describe what leaders in Wales aim for. The 54 behaviours show what that looks like on an ordinary Monday morning. If you work in Wales, your reports show your results against both, so you can see how your development supports the standards.
Take the self-diagnostic
Rate yourself on the 54 behaviours. It takes about 10 minutes, and members can add the 360 diagnostic later.
See your standards view
Your report has a second tab, Safonau proffesiynol · Welsh standards. It regroups your scores under the five standards and their leadership elements, with your strongest and weakest areas.
Choose where to grow
Choose one or two focus behaviours that strengthen the element you most want to develop, and practise them with the Playbooks, the ES Coach and your 90-day plan.
Leading in Wales? Leaders who join through a Welsh school or local authority link see the standards view automatically. Anyone else can switch it on by choosing Wales under “Where you work” on their desk.
The five standards and the behaviours that bring them to life
Each behaviour is linked to the leadership elements it most clearly supports. Your score for an element is the average of your scores on its behaviours. Many behaviours support more than one element.

Leading across schools
Every one of the 54 behaviours applies just as much to leaders who work across schools: trust and cluster leaders, local authority advisers and headteachers who support other settings. The standards call this system leadership: sharing what works, developing leaders beyond your own school and raising standards together. The behaviours that most directly support it are linked above under Supporting other settings and Supporting growth and system-wide leadership, but the same habits of explaining the why, holding high standards and going back to check are what make any partnership work.
About this mapping
This alignment has been made by Everyone Succeeds to show how the 54 behaviours relate to the leadership elements of the professional standards for teaching and leadership in Wales. It is our own mapping, not an official Welsh Government tool, and it is there to help your professional learning and reflection rather than to assess you. Doing an NPQ in England instead? See how the behaviours align with the NPQ frameworks.
