Toolkit

Creating moments is about being intentional in shaping experiences that leave a lasting impression. These don’t need to be elaborate or costly; they are often simple, thoughtful actions that elevate everyday interactions into defining memories. Whether it’s welcoming new students, recognising a quiet act of kindness, or marking a milestone with meaning, moments can create pride, connection, and inspiration. This design sheet helps leaders plan experiences with purpose, ensuring they resonate deeply and reinforce the culture and values of the school.

Moment
Identify the experience you want to create, whether it is a celebration, a transition, a recognition event, or support through a difficult time.
Purpose
Clarify why this moment matters. Is it to mark an achievement, to make a transition memorable, to motivate, or to strengthen belonging?
E / I / P / C Focus
Decide which aspect the moment is designed to build: Elevation (making the experience feel special), Insight (helping someone see differently), Pride (recognising achievement), or Connection (deepening relationships).
Key Details (Sensory / Story)
Plan the specific elements that will make the moment memorable. What sights, sounds, or words will shape the story people tell afterwards?
Who is Involved
Note who will lead or take part in creating the moment. This might be leaders, staff, students, or parents.
Capture & Share Plan
Decide how the moment will be remembered or amplified. Will it be shared in an assembly, captured in photos, or retold in the school newsletter?
Reflection Prompts
What lasting story will this moment create about our school? Am I designing experiences that feel personal, memorable, and aligned with our values? How often do I create opportunities for elevation, insight, pride, and connection? Am I ensuring that these moments are inclusive and that every member of the community has the chance to feel seen and valued?

C8. Create Moments: example toolkit

Role: Deputy Headteacher

Moment
A Welcome to Year 7 ceremony to celebrate the transition into secondary school.
Purpose
I want to create a defining first impression that establishes belonging, pride, and excitement. I will reduce transition anxiety, build identity around our values, and ensure students leave feeling part of something special.
E / I / P / C Focus
Connection and Pride.
Key Details (Sensory / Story)
In the main hall, I will use school colours and banners of the different houses. Each student walks the stage to receive a House Crest badge from the Headteacher, with applause from staff and peers. Soft music accompanies a montage from primary to academy life. The story is growth, belonging, and future potential: You are the next generation of legends.
Who is Involved
I will lead with Heads of House, Year 8 ambassadors, and tutors. Parents attend and Year 13 prefects act as guides.
Capture & Share Plan
I will share photos and quotes on the website and social media. A highlights video will play in the first assembly to reinforce belonging.
Reflection Prompts
This ceremony is now a core cultural moment. I will replicate this sense of significance at other transitions, such as Year 11 leavers and Sixth Form induction, so every key stage begins and ends with pride and story.
