S10. Sustain Change – Coach and Practice
This behaviour develops a leader’s ability to embed improvement so that success endures beyond initial momentum.

Behaviour focus
Supporting leaders to move from implementation to maintenance by building habits, routines, and accountability structures.

Purpose
To ensure that positive change becomes normal practice rather than a short-term initiative.
| Action Steps | Key Questions | Practice |
| Define what sustained success looks like. | How will you know the change has truly stuck? | Ask the leader to describe the new normal in observable terms. |
| Build routines around the change. | What needs to happen weekly or termly to maintain it? | Practise designing a maintenance routine (e.g. short check-in, monitoring point). |
| Transfer ownership. | Who will keep this going when your attention moves on? | Practise a handover conversation, ensuring clarity of responsibility and accountability. |
| Review and adapt. | How will you know when to refresh or evolve the system? | Practise framing review questions for a team: “What’s working? What’s fading? What needs refining?” |
