T10. Embrace Accountability – Coach and Practice
This behaviour develops a leader’s ability to hold people to clear, fair standards while showing belief in their capacity to improve.

Behaviour focus
Supporting leaders to make accountability constructive, consistent, and rooted in care.

Purpose
To ensure that high expectations are upheld with fairness, trust, and follow-through.
| Action Steps | Key Questions | Practice |
| Clarify expectations. | Are standards and success criteria explicit for everyone? | Ask the leader to script how they would explain a key expectation to a team member. |
| Ensure consistency. | Are all colleagues held to the same standard? | Practise discussing a missed expectation calmly and fairly with a hypothetical colleague. |
| Balance support and challenge. | How can you show belief while still insisting on improvement? | Practise using language that combines empathy and accountability. |
| Make accountability rhythmic. | Where and when will you regularly review performance? | Ask the leader to build accountability into weekly 1:1s or team meetings, and to reflect on the impact. |
