L1. Lead by Example – Coach and Practice
This behaviour develops a leader’s credibility by aligning words, actions, and standards in full view of the team.

Behaviour focus
Modelling the values, routines, and effort you expect from others.

Purpose
To build trust and clarity by making the desired culture visible in your daily behaviour.
| Action Steps | Key Questions | Practice |
| Make your standards observable. | Where will staff and students see my standards today? | Script a visible action for next week, for example: greet at the gate, start briefings on time, carry the corridor duty map, and use it. |
| Close the say-do gap. | Where do my actions drift from my words? | Choose one drift, such as replying to emails late, and practise the corrective routine for five days. |
| Be first in the routine. | How can I model the new or fragile routine before I ask for it? | Rehearse introducing a routine, then demonstrate it live in a meeting or corridor transition. |
| Narrate the why. | Do people know why I am doing what I am doing? | Practise a 30 second script that links your visible behaviour to a value, then use it in briefing. |
